Deburred dimpled and primed skins and stiffeners only, and back riveted.
Here is my method for perfect back rivets. Ingredient's: Scotch tape,
C frame sliding bar with spring and collate (not the C frame itself), and
one/half of a flush head rivet set on the bar. A nice piece of steel plate.
Ball peen hammer.
- Insert rivets with scotch tape, (thanks Dan) and run your tape the
length of each stringer.
- Turn skin over and place stiffener bracket over rivets.
- Place steel plate under the rivet heads.
- See Pic for details on how I set up the sliding bar. Make sure
the spring extends about 3/4". The spring along with your fingers keeps
the stiffeners mated against the skin. Whack away! Very important
: start on the leading or trailing edges first and work your way back. Don't
start in the middle of the stringer. Get a good rhythm, two good whacks
works for me.
Both skins final riveted.
Accomplished assembly of the rudder skeleton, and ready for final drilling
with left and right skins to spar and rib assembly.
